Come learn the art of shibori tie dye and create your own unique textiles in this upcoming workshop with local artist Rachel Dove. Sunday October 20, 2024 \ 11:00 AM - 2:00 PM

In this beginner workshop, you will learn how to create traditional shibori + tie dye patterns and explore the ancient blue dye indigo vat. Rachel will demonstrate basic resist dyeing techniques including folding, clamping, and wrapping fabric to create beautiful patterns.

All supplies are provided and each participant leaves with three cotton bandanas of their own creation.
Participants are also encouraged to bring one pre-washed natural cellulose fiber (100% cotton, linen, rayon or hemp) garment or item to dye – but nothing larger than a T-shirt.
Reminder: Wear clothing and shoes that you don’t mind getting stained and possibly wet. This is an outside activity, so dress appropriately. Aprons are provided. Workshop is limited to 12 students per class - $85 per person

I’m delighted to announce that one of my wood fired ceramic works was selected for inclusion in the exhibition Wood Soda Salt, at The University of Wyoming.

Wood Soda Salt, an exhibition celebrating the predictable-unpredictability of atmospheric firings. Atmospheric firing has a deep and rich tradition in ceramics and Wood - Soda - Salt is an opportunity to showcase traditional firings and contemporary making. This exhibition will celebrate the diversity of atmospheric firings and the newly built wood kiln and soda kiln at the University of Wyoming.

The exhibition will be juried by Kait Arndt, Assistant Professor of Art in Ceramics at the University of Wyoming.

The exhibition will run September 3rd, 2024 until November 29th.

Gallery 2 + Beacon Room: Opening Reception Second Saturday, July 13th, OPEN from 12-6 pm, with an artists’ reception from 6-8 pm. Exhibit ends Sunday, August 4th, at 506 Main Street, Beacon, NY. Saturdays and Sundays 12-6 pm or by appointment.

The exhibition Get Stoked! celebrates the achievements of two communities of artists. The Juniata College Ceramic program hosted 11 participants from the Art School at Old Church for its first collaborative wood firing. Juniata’s professor Rob Boryk and The Art School at Old Church’s instructor Eileen Sackman led the group in a week-long firing. "Get Stoked!" serves as a testament to the transformative power of collaboration and community. Participating artists include: Aaron Hill, Annick Des Roches, Antonia Noonan, BJ Watson, Eileen Sackman, Gail Rutigliano, Jude Parsells, Kathryn Crawford, Megan Woods, Naomi Hirscfeld, Natalie Dumar, Rachel Dove, Rob Boryk, Samantha Goldstien, Susan Bogen, and Sydney Ruckdeschel.

Shibori is the Japanese word for a variety of manual resist dyeing techniques that involves shaping and securing the fabric before dyeing to create patterns. Explore your creativity and learn more about the art of shibori at Planting Fields in this hands-on workshop instructed by artist Rachel Dove. All registrants will leave with two hand-dyed textiles.
